Not everyone knew David Archuleta could sing. Not like America knows now.

On a parched June day in 2006 before the 17-year-old “American Idol” phenom became a household name, David and dozens of other teens were on their way home from an LDS Church youth conference in Martin’s Cove, Wyo., when friends started pestering him to sing.

“He was being bashful. He said, ‘No, I haven’t warmed up,’ ” youth leader Julie Lundberg remembered. “They were giving him all kinds of crap. I said, ‘They’re not going to leave you alone until you sing.’ ”

David finally relented, grabbing a microphone from the bus driver, and his airy voice resounded through the static-filled intercom system. He sang Robbie Williams’ hit song, “Angels,” the same inspirational ballad he would later perform on “Idol.”

“It was cool. It was dead silence on the bus,” Lundberg said. “It’s like they all went, ‘Wow!’ ”
Two years later, David Archuleta is inching toward stardom. Since first stepping on the “American Idol” stage two months ago and stunning 25 million TV viewers with his interpretation of the 1961 Miracles’ hit, “Shop Around,” David has come to be viewed as the “Idol” contestant to beat.

With just five singers left, the Murray teenager known for his soft ballads and sweet, bubble-gum demeanor is virtually guaranteed to make the final two, likely with rocker David Cook, a raw power singer from Missouri and David Archuleta’s polar opposite.

David Archuleta - Think Of Me

Greetings, Archuleta fans!

Last night’s show was another interesting one. We had it all, full-voiced jam sessions, shaky vocal tone qualities, near meltdowns, and funky syncopated arrangements. It actually turned out A LOT better than I had expected, and Andrew Lloyd Webber was an amazing mentor (and I can’t STAND Andrew Lloyd Webber). He really did an amazing job with the contestants, and I have to give him kudos for giving each contestant more insight into exactly what they needed to do to deliver their performance to the audience effectively.

Top 06 Image | Is it lonely without Kristy in that picture? No, not really…because Archuleta is still in it! So, as most of you may know, next week’s theme will be mentored by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Most of you may know him as the creator of such big musicals including Cats and Phantom of the Opera. Blah blah blah…so the week will most likely be limited (once again) to songs created in the musicals of this highly praised man; I like Mariah better. Now the next question, what in the world is David going to sing? Who the f*** knows…I don’t even think David knows…we’ll all survive.

Now on to the second part…remember this?

He cornered David’s biggest competition, Tiffany Evans, in the green room and intimidated her, telling her she’d lose to David. No one knew about it because Tiffany didn’t tell anyone at that time. It wasn’t until later that night, when Jeff Archuleta started calling all night and harassing her in her room that Tiffany and her parents told producers. It became so intense that the producers of Star Search had a meeting and BANNED him from the lot.

jeff archuletaWell…Tiffany Evans just recently told USmagazine.com, “I don’t recall being around his father at all, I’ve heard some things about him, but I was 10 years old, I didn’t really pay attention.” So now who will you believe, gossip websites or a 15 year old friend of David’s that was actually there when “the incident” happened.

JEFF ROCKS!
